Rep. Gilliard has been a unifier during his tenure as a state elected official. The Walter Scott tragedy could have torn our city apart, but under Gilliard’s leadership and effort to introduce and get passed the Body Camera law, Charleston was able to begin a healing process. After the Emanuel 9 tragedy, Rep. Gilliard worked with Trident Tech College to produce the first of many forums on race relations in the Holy City.
Today, Rep. Gilliard is beating the drum about economic development opportunities within the maritime, tourism, and manufacturing industries. “We are only as strong as our weakest link. I think it’s good business that every aspect of our community thrives within our robust economy,” says Gilliard.
